Commencement Timeline

Graduation candidates, please review this timeline of important dates and deadlines leading up to our annual Commencement exercises. Make sure to reference the section that corresponds to your specific college, school or division as details may vary.

Returning to Commencement Green & Guest Ticketing

The seven relocated Commencement ceremonies (the Graduate Division, all College of Letters & Science, and the College of Engineering ceremonies), scheduled for June 14–16, will be returned to the Commencement Green.

Each of the six tickets issued to our students will admit two guests per ticket for the specific ceremony, allowing for a total of 12 guests per student. Each pair of guests entering on a single ticket must arrive together for admission. Guests are subject to security screening. Graduates can claim their guest tickets on MarchingOrder via GOLD. The Graduate Division will communicate directly with graduate students regarding MarchingOrder access instructions.

College of Creative Studies

Graduate Division

Registration for the 2024 Graduate Division Commencement ceremony will open March 11, 2024. The deadline for doctoral, master’s, and credential students to register to participate in the ceremony is Wednesday, May 3, 2024. Candidates participating in the June ceremonies will receive their electronic stage pass via email in early June. Passes are unique to each graduate and the ceremony they reserved. Candidates must present their electronic stage pass at the Event Center (student line-up) to gain entrance.

Each guest, 2 years or older, must have a ticket to enter. Each pair of guests entering on a single ticket must arrive together for admission. Guests are subject to security screening. Graduates can claim their guest tickets on MarchingOrder via GOLD.

Instructions on Claiming Guest Tickets for Graduate Students:

  1. Log into MarchingOrder. If you had previously created a MarchingOrder account to provide a recording of your name, log in with those credentials under 'RETURNING USERS' If you don't have an account, select the New User option by clicking 'REGISTER' IMPORTANT: You must register using your UCSBNetID@ucsb.edu email address for the system to identify your guest ticket correctly!
  2. Once in MarchingOrder click on 'MANAGE TICKETS'
  3. Select the number of tickets you want to claim and click 'SUBMIT' - each graduate is allotted six tickets
  4. A confirmation window will appear, click 'CONTINUE' to confirm or 'RETURN TO REQUEST SCREEN' to make changes
  5. Once confirmed, select the red 'GET YOUR TICKETS' button to email or print your guest tickets

You can log back in to adjust your ticket count or resend your claimed tickets as often as needed before your ceremony.

You can only claim tickets for the ceremony for which you have a confirmed reservation. Each ticket has a unique barcode - duplicates will be denied entrance.

College of Letters & Science / College of Engineering

Seniors in the College of Letters & Science and College of Engineering who wish to participate in a ceremony must make a reservation using GOLD. Do not make any plans based on a particular ceremony until you have a confirmed reservation using GOLD.

 

Seniors declaring candidacy in 2024 are eligible to make a reservation for their major ceremony using GOLD beginning at 9:00 AM on April 1. The LAST DAY to make a Commencement reservation is Monday, May 20, 2024.

Final day for undergraduates to make a commencement reservation. See above for reservation instructions.

Bachelor's degree candidates participating in the June ceremonies will receive their electronic stage pass via email in early June. Passes are unique to each graduate and the ceremony they reserved. Candidates must present their electronic stage pass at the Event Center (student line-up) to gain entrance. Specific instructions with day-of details including what time to report and what to bring will be outlined on your electronic stage pass.

Each of the six tickets issued to our students will admit two guests per ticket for the specific ceremony, allowing for a total of 12 guests per student. Each guest, 2 years or older, must have a ticket to enter. Each pair of guests entering on a single ticket must arrive together for admission. Guests are subject to security screening. Graduates can claim their guest tickets on MarchingOrder via GOLD.

  1. Log into GOLD as a ‘CURRENT STUDENT’ (If you are an alum, you should still log in as a ‘CURRENT STUDENT’)
  2. Navigate to the Progress tab, and select ‘GRADUATION & COMMENCEMENT’ from the drop-down menu
  3. Click on the ‘RESERVE/UPDATE’ button to be redirected to MarchingOrder
  4. Once in MarchingOrder click on ‘MANAGE TICKETS’
  5. Select the number of tickets you want to claim and click ‘SUBMIT’ - each graduate is allotted six tickets
  6. A confirmation window will appear, click ‘CONTINUE’ to confirm or ‘RETURN TO REQUEST SCREEN’ to make changes
  7. Once confirmed, select the red ‘GET YOUR TICKETS’ button to email or print your guest tickets

Student stage passes are different than guest tickets. Your electronic stage pass provides you access to your ceremony and does not count toward your six-ticket allotment (12 guests.)

Alert System

The UCSB Alert system is intended to enhance and promote safety on campus by providing community members and visitors with timely access to important information. Visitors who would like to receive temporary access to UCSB Alerts can subscribe to our NIXLE channel by texting UCSBAlert to 888777. (Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.)

Temporary subscriptions to UCSBAlert expires at 9:00am the following day, but can also be canceled by replying STOP at any time. Visitors must renew subscriptions to continue receiving alerts after they expire.

For alerts and information about incidents that occur outside of Clery geography (e.g., Isla Vista, Goleta, Santa Barbara) the campus community is encouraged to sign up for Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency alerts in Goleta or Santa Barbara. For additional information on the UCSB Alert system please visit the UC Santa Barbara Police Department website.
