Class of 2020 Virtual Celebration

Henley Gate Comes to You

Let’s try something fun, Class of 2020. While we recognize that nothing will ever replace the experience of taking your graduation photos in front of Henley Gate, we want to provide you with a placeholder to mark your momentous occasion. So, we’re bringing Henley Gate to you!

Here's How It Works

If you missed the opportunity to submit your photo and have it returned to you with a Henley Gate background, we’re offering another way to capture your virtual graduation portrait! You can still create your own Henley Gate shot using the PicsArt mobile app in a few easy steps. Make sure to follow our virtual photoshoot tips for the best results.

  1. In the app, from UC Santa Barbara’s PicsArt profile page, click any of the three posts that have the circular Replay feature logo on the upper right corner of the thumbnail.
  2. Click “Try.”
  3. Choose the image of yourself you’d like to put against the Henley Gate background in the selected Replay example. Size and position the photo as you desire.
  4. Click “Next” in the lower right corner to position and size the “Class of 2020" sticker how you’d like, or delete it altogether. To use another sticker not shown, click on the “sticker” button and search “UCSB” for more stickers.
  5. Click “Next” and choose to save or post your Henley Gate photo!

Tips for Your Virtual Photoshoot

  • Have someone else take a photo of you in landscape orientation (horizontal).
  • Frame the shot with you in the center, from about waist up, leaving space above your head.
  • Shoot outdoors if possible in strong natural light, but not direct sunlight.
  • Try to avoid harsh shadows on your face—turn so the sun is above and behind you.
  • Stand in front of the most simple, plain background you can find, like the side of a house or garage.
  • Have fun!
