"Son of a Lion," Free Screening, Aug. 26, 7 p.m., Campbell Hall   Eleven-year-old Niaz lives with his father in a small town in northwest Pakistan, where for generations the local population has been producing weapons. Post screening discussion with Shahnaz Rouse, Alice Stone Ilchman Professor of comparative and international studies at Sarah Lawrence College.

"One Pair of Eyes: Reyner Banham Loves Los Angeles," Film, Sept. 3, 6 p.m., University Art Museum   Reyner Banham's influential and controversial book, "Los Angeles: The Architecture of Four Ecologies," saw beauty in the sprawling city's layout and car-based urbanism. The BBC documented Banham's vision of Los Angeles for an episode of its series, "One Pair of Eyes." MORE INFO

"Vanishing Los Angeles," Panel Discussion, Sept. 10, 6 p.m., University Art Museum   UCSB and Santa Barbara Museum of Art panelists will consider the representation of the people and places of Los Angeles in photography and film in response to their current exhibitions: "Vanishing Los Angeles:" The Photography of Mary Bowling at the UAM, and "Made in Hollywood: Photographs from the John Kobal Foundation" at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Approximately 5,000 freshman and transfer students are expected to attend this ceremonial induction into the university. Environmentalist Céline Cousteau, daughter of ocean explorer and filmmaker Jean-Michael Cousteau and granddaughter of the legendary Jacques Cousteau, will be the keynote speaker. MORE INFO

"A Beautiful Nothing: The Architecture of Edward A. Killingsworth" July 16-Oct. 12
This is the first major presentation of the designs of the Southern California architect, Edward A. Killingsworth (1917-2004), who achieved international prominence during the 1960s with his signature light-weight wooden post-and-lintel residences and commercial buildings. The exhibition features 14 of Killingsworth's most provocative unrealized projects set within a photographic timeline that marks his built and destroyed works. MORE INFO
