UC Santa Barbara Parents Fund

The Parents Fund creates a community of parents actively engaged in their students’ college experience and provides the primary vehicle to philanthropically support the campus. Ensuring UC Santa Barbara’s academic excellence requires more than state funds and student fees. It requires the involvement and generous support of all UC Santa Barbara parents, affording valuable enrichment to every student.

Fund for Academic Excellence
Supports opportunities to enhance academic experiences within and beyond the classroom, including instructional technology, innovative teaching, library advancements, and education abroad.

Dean of Undergraduate Education's Fund for Student Success
Supports undergraduate academic advising, research fellowships and colloquium, and the Honors Program.

Student Enrichment Fund
Supports programs which develop students’ scholarship, leadership, and citizenship potential, including career services, counseling, tutoring, financial aid, and wellness.

Fund for Advancing the Sciences
Supports teaching and research in the math, life and physical sciences, including interdisciplinary coursework, lab enhancement, and undergraduate research.

College of Letters & Science Fund for Excellence
Supports the Deans' priorities for a liberal arts education in a great public research university.

Why Parent Support is Important

Unrestricted gifts to UC Santa Barbara provide flexible funding for top priorities and respond to the needs for new interdisciplinary programs, best practices for innovative teaching, and expanded services that support student success. However, any gift from a parent, to any designation on campus, helps to build the success of our Parents Fund. From programs, to facilities, to scholarships, parent gifts combine with other annual contributions to enhance nearly every aspect of undergraduate life.

All parents will receive a phone call from our Annual Fund students asking for their support through the Parents Fund. We encourage parents to make gifts of $1,000 or more to become members of the Chancellor’s Council and enjoy tailored benefits. Membership in the Chancellor’s Council helps parents build a closer relationship with UC Santa Barbara as well as with other parents.

Chancellor’s Council benefits for supporters of the Parents Fund include:

  • Invitations to university events, including our popular regional parent receptions
  • Campus parking privileges
  • Direct liaison with the Parents Fund & Outreach office for inquiries and referrals
  • Recognition in the annual Report of Private Giving
  • Receipt of university publications including UC Santa Barbara Today and Coastlines
  • Reserved seating and parking at commencement for the current academic year

Gifts of all sizes are sincerely appreciated and truly make a difference. Private support to UC Santa Barbara through the Parents Fund is tax-deductible. Any parent interested in learning more about supporting the Parents Fund is encouraged to contact parent.outreach@ia.ucsb.edu.

Parent Outreach Events and Receptions

Our outreach efforts serve as a bridge between families and their students at the university. Throughout the academic year, our goal is to keep families engaged with their students’ college experience and the accomplishments of UC Santa Barbara. Please join our outreach efforts by attending events on campus or parent receptions hosted in your community. Parent Leadership Opportunities

Parent Chairs

The Parent Chairs provide volunteer leadership for parent outreach and fundraising activities throughout the academic year, working closely with campus representatives.

Parent Leadership Circle

The Parent Leadership Circle encompasses the premier group of parent donors to UC Santa Barbara. The Circle increases the profile of parents as investors in the campus and ambassadors for the University of California. Through special recognition and unique programming, The Circle provides this community of parent donors an active role in the university while their children are students.

When you make a gift of $10,000 or greater to any campus designation, you join other parents who play a pivotal role in their student's education by ensuring UC Santa Barbara’s position as a leading university in research and education.

Parents Fund Partners

New this fiscal year, Parents Fund Partners are parent donors giving at the $2,500 level annually. Partners provide both unrestricted and restricted gifts to UC Santa Barbara for funding of top priorities.

Parents Fund Partners receive all Chancellor’s Council benefits as well as an annual campus event dedicated to providing them with critical information on student academic success and enrichment opportunities. Partners are also encouraged to be community parent ambassadors, strengthening ties between UCSB families, their students, and the university.

Parent Hosts

Parent volunteers play a key role, especially through Parents Fund & Outreach receptions and events, in their home or at a venue. All regional parent receptions are fully underwritten by parent hosts, which is a wonderful way to give back to UCSB and encourage other parents to get involved.
