RECENT TSUNAMI-RELATED EVENTS

  • Isla Vista Merchants Tsunami Relief Week
    From January 31st – February 6th, many Isla Vista merchants will be donating a portion of their proceeds for tsunami relief. Check individual merchants for details.
     
  • Valentine's Day Dance
    February 11th
    The Black Pioneer Renaissance Organization will host this formal dance.
    Tickets will be on sale at AS Ticket Office. A portion of the money will be
    donated to the La Conchita Mudslide victims.
     
  • Winter Formal
    February 4th, 9pm
    Asian Resource Center and Vietnamese Student Association are hosting a winter formal dance in the UCen Hub.
     
  • Tsunami Relief Benefit Lunch
    Tuesday, February 1st
    MultiCultural Center Lounge
    INDUS, ASHA, Bhangra Team, and the MultiCultural Center sponsor this lunch of authentic South Asian cuisine. All profits will be donated to Direct Relief International.
     
  • "No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament"
    Sunday, January 23rd
    Corwin Pavilion, UCSB UCen Bldg.

    Students, staff, faculty, and members of the community are all invited to
    participate. 50% of the proceeds from this event will go to Direct Relief International, and the remaining 50% will be saved for future philanthropy, social, and charity events. Prizes include portable DVD player, digital camera, poker chip sets, poker table, gift certificates, DVD player, PokerStars.com merchandise, and raffle prizes! Hosted by Zeta Phi Rho Fraternity, Inc.   • A Community Heart and Memorial Service
    Sunday, January 16th – 2:00pm
    Santa Barbara City College Football Stadium

    Join us in forming a human heart made up of thousands of people at Santa Barbara City College Stadium. Come together as a community to mourn the lives lost in the La Conchita mud slide and the tsunami. Show the survivors of these tragedies that we are with them. We will pass donation boxes throughout the stadium crowd. The funds raised will be distributed to the American Red Cross International Response Fund and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.   • Tsunami Relief Action Forum
    Sunday, January 9th – 11:00-4:00pm
    MultiCultural Center (MCC) Lounge

    Community members and relief organizers, in addition to American Red Cross representatives, will inform students about the current situation in South/Southeast Asia. Following will be an action forum where you can talk about your ideas for a community effort in addressing the relief, opportunities to link up with others who share the same ideas, and network and work together.   • UCSB Tsunami Relief Meeting
    Monday, January 10th – 7:00pm
    MultiCultural Center (MCC) Theatre

    Action and information meeting. American Red Cross representatives from the Santa Barbara County Chapter will be in attendance to provide the latest updates and to answer any questions. Organized by the American Red Cross Club at UCSB. Questions? UCSBRedCross@yahoo.com
