Letter from Robert Kuntz to Supervisor Marshall, December 7, 2000

December 7, 2000

The Honorable Gail Marshall
Third District Supervisor
Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors
105 East Anapamu Street
Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Dear Gail:

Re: Proposal for Highway 217 Workshop Process

We were pleased to receive your proposal of November 30, 2000 for a joint workshop process for Highway 217. We are eager to begin discussions and trust that by working together we can quickly reach consensus on an area solution that does not involve downgrading Highway 217.

We will need to agree on a mutually acceptable process. A good starting point would be a free exchange of information and ideas (rather than presentations) with the individuals you mention in your letter (Mr. Demery, Mr. Patton, Mr. Derrick and Mr. Albright) and the UCSB Highway 217 Review Committee. May we suggest that Ms. Jonny Wallis, chair of the Goleta Old Town Project Area Committee, be included as well? We suggest that the meeting be scheduled on Friday, December 15, from 12:30 p.m. @ 2:00 p.m. in the Chancellor's Conference Room, 5th floor of Cheadle Hall. Parking permits will be waiting for participants at our East Gate Kiosk.

I can assure you that we are most anxious to expedite the resolution of this matter and look forward to our meeting on December 15. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely, Robert W. Kuntz
Assistant Chancellor
